RE: Caulking my trailer

Use geocel Proflex for gutters corners ect. Used dish detergent added to water to smooth with and mineral spirits to clean the access up when dry. Dicor lap sealant for corners seams, Or better than that Eternabond roof seal onestep for roof seams from Rvupgrades. Mike

RE: fixing leak

I would really look at the type of pipe if you have to replace don't take for granted it is pvc most of the ones I have had over the years had the type that mobile homes use. Like the others say really inspect the shower pan. Mike

RE: how many of you camp with children

Cost of living is probably the biggest thing. Plus its easier to pull the pop-ups with the family van. That is the way we started, 1st a pop-up, 2nd a ultra-lite, 3rd a small 5th wheel. And wasn't none of them we could afford. So we re-located with a job things started looking up then and we started over again, A NICER pop-up this time, Then wild hair traded it for my Jayco TT. My girls was 6 and 11 when we started camping again Now they are 15 and 10. The biggest reason I bought the TT was If I didn't they would be grown up before I knew it, so we are still having a ball. RE: New to forum and new (old) 1973 Sprite

Welcome to the forum, Nice looking camper. There are many on-line camping supply stores Rvupgrades.com, Pplmotorhomes, campingworld, or order direct from a dealer. As far as the lights if I wasn't set on the style on it buy what you want and re-drill if you have too. Just put putty tape (butyl rubber found at rv dealers) under the new lights and put a little proflex sealant on the screws and in the hole and some proflex around the new light also. The main thing have fun, Happy camping, Mike

RE: Jayco Roof repair pictures

Mike, great job! Thanks for sharing your handiwork!
Can one just roll-up the TPO and reuse it, or did you have to buy a new section of TPO to cover the new plywood? Is there adhesive between the TPO and the plywood?
Thanks all, The tpo was really in sad shape kind of stretched once I pulled on it getting it up. The glue really holds it well. I found a place in Dunlap Tennessee (dunlap Rv) that could get the TPO by the foot. They said it was made by a company called ALL-RIGHT somewhere out of Georgia. So I purchased about 9ft from them and they had some glue (same brand) I had already picked up the new piece of ceiling for the inside and some glue in Huntsville Al. they had from a previous job. It was Dicor brand the all-right brand was a better glue than the Dicor. The adhesive just rolls on with a 1/4 inch nap roller. Then spread out the roofing like doing a linoleum floor. Thanks for all the replies we went ahead with 2 of our big trips and kind of down in the dumps when we tore into it when we got back and found out what was going to be involved. Really is depressing when you look at a 3 yr old camper. Any how we sure are glad to be on the other side of it now. WHEW now just got to get in some more trips before winter. Thanks Mike
And THANKS to all for helping me with some decisions along the way. This forum is really a wonderful place to get information. Sure is habit forming!!!

RE: Jayco Roof repair pictures

I wish I had know about eternabond then. The pic that shows the broke screw is were it leaked mostly. I used it in 2005 when I purchased. In 2006 the company I worked for was talking about strike so we was afraid to go anywere. (And we did strike for 3 months) We moved last year for a new job and when cleaning it out in Oct it had the ceiling wrinkled in the front cabinet. I never noticed any cracks in the dicor, just a place when I cleaned the roof that was like a small spot that was kind of flapped up. When I removed the sealant there was a screw that had been broken in the corner ( I think over torqued at factory and sealed over. Oh well e-mailed factory and of course was out of warranty. But hopefully all is well now. Mike

Jayco Roof repair pictures

Just thought I would share a few pictures of my recent water damage repair. I only replaced part of the tpo roof. I talked to several dealers who rough quoted 3500 to 4000 to replace the whole roof and the dealer I purchased the roof from suggested that if it was his that he would only replace what he had to. Anyhow with lack of a garage to do the work in I went with his suggestion. Here is a few pictures of the work Mike
Roof repair
While I'm on a roll I going to eternabond the vent, fridge vent, re chaulk the markers and other gadgets while I'm at it.

RE: Chevy 04 trailer wiring

The trailer package trucks came with a pig tail for a brake controller it plugs under the dash on drivers side and there was a 50 amp fuse that plugged in under the hood. My 2000 silverado had this and my 2004 suburban did also but I 'm not sure of the fuse size on it. The owners manual should show this and were the fuse installs. I'm not sure what it controls I used mine with a adapter for 4 way before I installed the fuse. Then I installed the fuse, everything worked fine on my travel trailer. Mike

RE: Help with replacing connector

Just cut it off and take a knife and cut back the outer insulation of the cord. try not to cut back no more than you have to were the outer insulation will go into the plug when finished. Just enough to keep your individual wires short to install into the plug. When done shouldn't see any of the inner wires when the plug is put back together. mike

RE: Another newB Question: Specail Toilet Paper?

We use to use rv paper and now we use angel soft or something else thin. Not Charmin... We use the blue stuff from wally world. I have heard a lot about the calgon am going to try it next time. When I have had clogs I pour ice through the toilet and let it clean the clog out on the way home Mike

Mounting gutter question (chaulking too)

I about to install my gutters back on the camper they are 1 1/2 inch wide. The butyl rubber is almost 1 inch wide. Is this sufficent? It is the same width that was on the gutters when I took them off. The gutter was siliconed at bottom against trailer. Is proflex ok to use and what can I use to make the proflex a smooth finish? Thanks mike
P.s. I bought new stainless screws to install them back with.

Roof Strip seal question using eternabond

I'm currently repairing a leak on my jayco. This is an old picture of when it all started. I currently am putting all the moulding and gutters back on the trailer. My question is I thought about putting 2 sided eternabond under the aluminum that rolls up on the front. And I have a new piece of strip that will go all the way across the seam. Would it be better to cut down the corner edging and extend this strip out farther? How is your trailer made is it like this picture? And any suggestions on using eternabond on the corner strip right on top were the lap sealant is on the aluminum? I'm going to run eternabond across the new joint when finished. Thanks Mike
